Paul exhorts the Ephesian congregation to walk in a worthy manner.
WALK – used figuratively to denote a lifestyle or a manner of life.
Overarching Point of Doctrine - A life characterized by the Spirit is a life where God the Holy Spirit produces the character of Christ within the Christian as the Christian walks in dependence upon the Spirit who has been summoned to his side to enable him with the power required to walk in a manner worthy of His calling (Eph. 3:19-4:3, 5:18 cf. Gal. 5:16, 22-23 cf. John 14:16-17).
The Christian life is a supernatural way of life that requires a supernatural means of execution – the mentorship of God the Holy Spirit provides that supernatural means.
Dependence on God the Holy Spirit is required to live the spiritual life.
God the Holy Spirit permanently indwells every born-again believer regardless of whether they have knowledge of that doctrine or not – or whether they believe it or not.
An experiential reality of the indwelling presence of God the Holy Spirit is designed to affect how the Christian walks.
Requirements needed for the believer to set in motion the supernatural power of the spiritual life.
An awareness of what the Holy Spirit has been sent to do in the life of the Christian is a prerequisite to depending upon that which He has been sent to do.
That awareness comes from being taught and digesting the doctrine
of the mentorship responsibilities of God the Holy Spirit.
The Christian fulfills the command to "keep on being filled", while in fellowship, via malleability and walking in dependence on God the Holy Spirit.
When the Christian is malleable, he is able not to quench
the Holy Spirit's ministries in the life and remain under the
controlling influence of God the Holy Spirit.
